You’ll probably get some really bad SEO advice from other business people who have had websites for a while. There was a day, long ago, when the web crawler at Google was a lot less impressive than it is today. It was easily tricked into giving ranking advantages to sites utilizing what has become known as “blackhat SEO”.  Today, these practices will result in your site being penalized by the Google search engine, which is a big deal since this engine alone processes 77.43 percent of search traffic right now.

A few of the most common suggestions that will land you in Google prison lickety-split include:

    • Keyword stuffing in the content, tags or meta data of your site
    • Using irrelevant keywords simply to rank
    • Using invisible text on pages to insert keywords
    • Artificial link shares, like those you can purchase from generic directories or some blog owners

In short, Google wants your site to grow up naturally and to develop natural connections to other sites that make sense for you to be connected to and for keywords to naturally occur during the process of your site being promoted.
